Making and Applying Rhinestone Transfers with Mickey Rider Creations
1. Gather the materials needed: a cutting machine (Cricut or Silhouette), magic flock vinyl, transfer paper/tape, applicator brush, hot fix rhinestones, and a heat press or Iron.
2. Place the vinyl onto the cutting mat.
3. Design the rhinestone transfer sheet in the cutting machine software.
4. Cut out the design from the cutting machine.
5. Remove the excess vinyl from the cutting mat.
6. Peel off the backing from the vinyl and place it onto a flat board, table or tray.
7. Place the rhinestones onto the vinyl smoothing out with your applicator brush. Once in place,
8. Cover with the transfer paper/tape and smooth out.
9. Remove the transfer paper/tape with rhinestones attached and place it onto the desired item.
10. Heat press the transfer at 305 degrees for 15 seconds.
11. Once cool to the touch, peel off the transfer paper and enjoy your rhinestone item.
So what are these items I use?
Cutting Machine - I like using my silhouette over cricut only because of the software. The silhouette makes it so much easier for me.
Rhinestone (magic) flock vinyl – Thick, self-adhesive, ability to stack easily for the multi color designs. Easy to brush the rhinestones over, and I can easily use it in both my cricut and silhouette with no problem.
Transfer tape – transfers your rhinestone design from the cutting template to your pressing item and acts as a cover sheet as well.
Applicator brush – it makes placing the rhinestones so easy, with a soft glide back and forth until all your rhinestones are in place.
Hot fix rhinestones - There are a few different types of hot fix rhinestones to choose from, including Swarovski crystals, acrylic stones, and glass stones. You can find them in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. I use mostly the 10ss (2.7 to 2.99mm). Based on what you are going after they can range from as small as 6ss (1.9 to 2.1mm) to very large 34ss (7.1 to 7.3mm).
Being that the internet can be our friend is most cases. You would be able to find other options to cut your rhinestone template out as well as other supplies you might find easier or less expensive.
I don’t find this to be a hard process at all. I find it actually really fun and relaxing.
I hope I was able to help someone out and add a little bit more fun to your crafting and business world.
